Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 2026
At Storie, we believe your privacy and your family's privacy are paramount. This policy explains how we handle your information.
What We Collect
- Account Information: Email address for authentication.
- Story Data: The worlds you make (a name, who lives there, a mood, what never happens there, a reading age, up to three laws, and the first names of up to two children listening, if you add them), the ending you choose for each book, any note you leave to change a chapter, a farewell note if you archive a world, the books and chapters written, where you stopped reading, and any voice recordings you, or a reader you invite, make for a chapter, with that reader's name. All of it is kept until you delete the world or close your account. Storie also keeps three things made in earlier versions. Stories hold the text and a child's name, age and interests, until you delete the story or close your account. Reader profiles hold a child's name, age and interests, a birth month and year if you gave one, and a place or detail Storie remembered for the next story, until you close your account. Your Worlds holds each world's name and description, its characters, places, recurring elements, moments and refrains, and what is waiting to shape the next story, until you delete a world there or close your account.
- Usage Data: Basic analytics to improve our service (language preferences, story types used).
- Messages You Send: A message you choose to send is stored with your account and read by the studio to improve Storie, and it is deleted when you close your account.
- Where You Came From: The immanence_anon_id cookie holds a random id, kept up to a year, and with it we keep which page first brought you here, the country you are in as a two-letter code, and whether you tapped or scrolled, but never your IP address, and none of it is sold or shared.
- A World Started as a Gift: If someone who gives a week also starts a world for your child, we keep the place, the first name and the one thing they chose, encrypted, until you make the world, set it aside or close your account. A code that is never added keeps them with the gift.
What We Don't Collect
We don't sell your data to advertisers. We don't track you across the web. We don't store sensitive information about children beyond what's needed for story personalization.
AI and Your Data
Stories are written by Anthropic's Claude. What you choose and write for a book (the world and its laws, the reading age, the ending, the children's first names, and any note you leave to change a chapter) is sent to Anthropic to write it. While you make a world, a sample first line for your book appears on the page, written by Anthropic from the world, its laws and the reading age, without the children's first names. Continuing a story from an earlier version of Storie also sends the story so far and the name, age and interests saved with it. Keepsake pictures are drawn by OpenAI from a short scene line, with names removed first. The Listen button reads a story aloud in your device's own computer voice. Storie does not send the story anywhere for this. Story requests and the stories written are also logged with Braintrust so we can check story quality (see below). We never use your family's data to train AI models, and we never sell it.
Third-Party Services
We use trusted providers to deliver our service:
- Clerk: Authentication and sign-in
- Vercel: Hosting and deployment
- Supabase: Database
- Stripe: Payment processing
- Anthropic: AI story generation
- OpenAI: Keepsake pictures, drawn from a scene line with names removed
- Braintrust: Story quality checks. Story requests and the stories written are logged there. The logs are not tied to your account, and email addresses and phone numbers are removed first. Your child's first name, as you entered it, is replaced before anything is logged. The story text is not removed.
- Resend: Sending emails, such as a gift code to the person who bought it
- Apple: Purchases made in the iPhone app
Children's Privacy
Storie is designed for families. While stories can be created for children, accounts must be created by adults. We minimize data collection about children to only what's necessary for story personalization.
