The Sleepy Little Duck

The pond is warm. The day is done. Down goes the round and yellow sun.
A little duck floats soft and slow. The water rocks him to and fro.
The reeds are still.
The sky is pink.
The frogs go blink, blink, blink.
Rock little duck, rock soft and slow. Rock little duck, the moon is low.
His mama comes with feathers wide. He tucks his head against her side.
Warm and soft, warm and deep, one wing over him like a sheet.
A ripple pats the muddy shore. The wind goes hush, and then no more.
The pond is dark.
The stars are near.
And nothing, nothing, wakes him here.
Rock little duck, rock soft and slow. Rock little duck, so warm below.
One small foot, then no small peep. The whole warm pond is going to sleep.
Rock little duck. The night is deep.
